# Install Omni Desktop

> Download Omni Desktop for macOS from your xpander, move it to Applications and open it. Windows and Linux are coming soon.

Open your xpander's download page: `https://<your xpander>/desktop/`. On xpander cloud that is [chat.xpander.ai/desktop](https://chat.xpander.ai/desktop/). The web chat also offers the download when you choose **Open in Desktop** and the app is not installed yet.

## macOS

You need macOS on an Apple silicon or Intel Mac.

1. Download the `.dmg` for your Mac and open it.
2. Drag **Omni** into **Applications**.
3. Open **Omni** from Applications.

The app lives in the menu bar and opens at login by default. Closing the window keeps it running in the menu bar; click the dock icon or open the app again to bring the window back. Turn **Open at login** off in [Settings](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/settings.md).

To let agents use your apps, macOS asks for two permissions after you sign in. See [Computer control](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/computer-control.md#give-the-app-the-macos-permissions).

## Windows and Linux

> Omni Desktop for Windows and Linux is coming soon. On Windows, agents will work with your trusted folders directly; the shell is not available there yet.

## Updates

The app downloads new versions from your xpander on its own. When one is ready, a strip under the title bar names it, for example **Omni 1.5.0 is ready**, with **Restart to update** and **Later**. [Settings](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/settings.md) > **About** shows the same, and **Check for updates…** in the **Omni** menu checks right away. A self-hosted xpander serves its own updates, so the app never needs to reach the internet for them.
