Choose your xpander

On first launch the app asks which xpander you use. Enter its address and choose Continue:
  • xpander cloud: chat.xpander.ai.
  • A self-hosted xpander (Hybrid or Air-gapped): your company’s own address, for example chat.acme.com. Ask your admin if you do not know it.
Welcome to Omni screen with an xpander URL field and a Continue button

First run: the address of your xpander. Shown with sample data.

If your company manages your Mac, the address may already be filled in and read Set by your organization; you cannot change it. See MDM.

If the app cannot reach the address, it says Could not reach with the address. Check the spelling and your network (and VPN, for a self-hosted xpander), then choose Try again. To use a different xpander later, change the address in Settings. Changing it signs you out first.

Sign in through your browser

The app has no sign-in form of its own. You sign in in your browser, the way you always do on the web (single sign-on, Google, GitHub or email), and the browser hands the app its own session for this Mac.
  1. In the app, choose Sign in with your browser. The dialog shows which xpander you are signing in to; Change goes back to the address.
Sign in to Omni dialog with a Sign in with your browser button, and Signing in to chat.xpander.ai with Change below it

Sign in to Omni. Shown with sample data.

  2. Your browser opens the Connect Omni Desktop page. Sign in if you are not already. The page names your Mac, the account and the organization the app will be signed in as. If you did not just choose Sign in in the app on your own computer, close the page.

The browser asks before it connects the app. Shown with sample data.

  3. Choose Connect. The browser opens the app, which finishes signing in on its own.
If the app does not open, choose The app did not open? on the browser page to see a one-time code. Copy it, return to the app and paste it under Sign-in code, then choose Continue. The code works once and expires after a minute.
Return to Omni page with an Open Omni button and a one-time code with a copy button

The one-time code, for when the app does not open by itself. Shown with sample data.

If the page says Omni Desktop is not available, your organization has not turned Omni Desktop on for you. Ask an admin.

How long you stay signed in

Your browser session stays in the browser; the app gets its own session for this Mac, kept in the macOS keychain. After 30 days without using the app, it asks you to sign in through the browser again. Sign out from your account menu in the app, or in Settings.
